As a builder, each project presents a unique adventure filled with challenges and rewarding stories. I recently had the privilege of constructing “The Weston,” a magnificent home designed by architect Phil McCullough for its owners, Mike and Lindsey, in the picturesque West of Market neighborhood in Kirkland.

Inspiration and Design

Max Rombakh from Windermere Real Estate and Jen Kowalski from Six Walls Interior Design captured the essence of the surrounding environment—Lake Washington and the lush Pacific Northwest. Together, we crafted a residence that felt custom-tailored to them while also standing out in the neighborhood. The color palette included soothing blues, greens, and grays, establishing a serene connection to nature.

An Architect’s Masterpiece

Spanning 5,680 square feet, “The Weston” includes six bedrooms and five bathrooms with versatile spaces for working and entertaining. The floating staircase serves as a stunning centerpiece, designed to maximize the views. I dedicated considerable effort to ensure its striking appearance and functionality.

The First Floor: Grounded and Dramatic

The entrance features dramatic wall elements and a backlit mirror, setting the tone for the home. The darker finishes transitioning into the media room enhance the grounded feel of this mostly sub-terrain level, creating inviting spaces.

The Main Floor: Sophisticated and Functional

The main floor emphasizes sophistication and versatility, integrating natural colors into every detail. The floor-to-ceiling west-facing windows create a seamless connection with the outdoors. Collaborating with Jen, we ensured the kitchen emerged as the heart of the home, blending beauty and functionality for both daily cooking and entertaining.

The Third Floor: A Retreat in Light

The upper floor, bathed in light, is designed to be a sanctuary. The primary suite offers stunning views with floor-to-ceiling windows, while the rooftop lounge serves as a flexible space for relaxation or gatherings.

Conclusion: A Home Like No Other

As we completed “The Weston,” I felt immense pride in creating a house that embodies collaboration and creativity. With unique design elements and personal touches from Mike and Lindsey, this home stands out as a true testament to luxurious living. “The Weston” is not just a house; it’s an entertainer’s dream built for the functionality of everyday life and the luxury of a private retreat.
